Brendan McGrath is a professional pianist, composer, and teacher from Amiskwaciwâskahikan, so-called Edmonton, Alberta, on Treaty 6 territory in Canada. As a player McGrath focuses on improvisation, primarily performing and recording as a solo improvising pianist, leader of a jazz piano trio, and interpreter of J.S. Bach.
Currently McGrath is based in The Hague, where he plays piano across multiple styles including classical, jazz, pop, and various improvisational styles.
McGrath earned his BMus from MacEwan University in Jazz and Pop Performance in 2017, studying with musicians like Chris Andrew, Kent Sangster, Mark Segger, and Jim Head. McGrath completed his MMus in classical piano performance in 2024, having studied piano under Dr. Patricia Tao, Dr. Viktoria Reiswich-Dapp, and Dr. Mark Hannesson.
As a Pop and Rock keyboardist, McGrath has played with brother Eamon McGrath, Trevor McNeely, Justine Vandergrift, Aladean Kheroufi, Lagrimrosa and Calvin Love. As a jazz and theatre pianist, McGrath plays and records with artists like Aretha Tillotson, Joel Jeschke, Inés Dominguez del Corral, Mari Ova, Jacob Do, Jon Guenter, and more. As a classical player, McGrath has worked with esteemed vocalists Erin Selin, Eve Rhodes, and Daphne van Zundert. McGrath also plays solo piano across styles, including classical and free improvisation.
