Brendan McGrath is a professional pianist, composer, and teacher from Amiskwaciwâskahikan, so-called Edmonton, Alberta, on Treaty 6 territory. As a player McGrath focuses on improvisation, primarily performing and recording as a solo improvising pianist, leader of a jazz piano trio, and interpreter of J.S. Bach.

McGrath earned his BMus from MacEwan University in Jazz and Pop Performance in 2017, studying with musicians like Chris Andrew, Kent Sangster, Mark Segger, and Jim Head. Following his undergrad, McGrath took part in the TD Youth Jazz Summit, and won the TD International Jazz  Festival Award.

McGrath completed his MMus in classical piano performance, having studied piano under Dr. Patricia Tao, Dr. Viktoria Reiswich-Dapp, and Dr. Mark Hannesson. At the U of A, McGrath won the Alberta Graduate Excellence scholarship.

McGrath has focused on the Taubman approach during his time at the U of A, and studied with Taubman master Deborah Cleaver. McGrath now applies this approach to his teaching, and has found a niche in helping professionals, students, and amateurs with both technical and musical problems.

As a jazz pianist, McGrath has played with professionals such as Jacob Do, Joel Jeschke, Jon Guenter, Jerrold Dubyk, John Sweenie, and Aretha Tillotson, whose debut record features McGrath as sideman.

As a Pop and Rock keyboardist, McGrath has played with brother Eamon McGrath, Trevor McNeely, Justine Vandergrift, Aladean Kheroufi, Lagrimrosa and Calvin Love.
